Hall-of-Famer Freddie Roach believes undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is capable of knocking out Miguel Cotto when they face off on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Roach told Boxing Scene that Cotto is in decline and that Mayweather has a good chance of stopping him.
"I think Cotto's been declining ever since (Antonio) Margarito beat him up so badly," Roach said, referring to Cotto's 11th round technical knockout defeat to Margarito in July 2008.
"He's really a bit on the downside at this point. I think Mayweather may even stop Miguel now," Roach added.
Cotto has not lost since falling to Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao via a 12th round TKO in November 2009. He moved up to light middleweight and relled off three straight victories, winning the WBA light middleweight title along the way.
His most recent victory was a 10th round knockout of Margarito in a revenge match.
But Roach believes Mayweather will be too good for Cotto when they meet.
"The speed and the boxing ability will be a big difference," he said.
