A Smart Gilas-Pilipinas 2 official hopes to sit down with Chito Salud when the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner returns from Dubai to begin outlining the guidelines needed to form the national team that will compete in next year's FIBA-Asia Championship.

National team operations manager Butch Antonio hopes to meet with Salud next week now that Chot Reyes has been appointed as the head coach of the next batch of the Gilas squad composed of players from the pro league.

"So we can get a clearer picture of how the PBA will come in to help the cause," said Antonio.

Salud accompanied Barako Bull, Barangay Ginebra and Rain or Shine in Dubai where the Elasto Painters play back-to-back elimination round games in the Commissioner's Cup.

Prior to the start of the league's 37th season, Salud and the PBA Board of Governors promised to lend 18 players to the national team pool from where Reyes will choose the final roster of Gilas 2.

The PBA loaned Jimmy Alapag, Asi Taulava, Kelly Williams and Ranidel De Ocampo to the Rajko Toroman-coached Smart Gilas team last year that reached the semifinals of the FIBA-Asia Championship For Men in Wuhan, China.

The core of the Sinag national team that won the gold in the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia will join the PBA players from the PBA pool.

Antonio said Reyes is also considering getting Jong Uichico, Meralco mentor Ryan Gregorio and Ateneo tactician Norman Black as members of his coaching staff. — JVP, GMA News
