Iloilo City plays host to 2012 SCUAA Sports Olympics

ILOILO CITY –The city of Iloilo will play host to 2012 State Colleges and Universities Athletics Association (SCUAA) Sports Olympics slated on Feb. 19-25.

Athletic delegations from Region 4A and Region 4B were the first ones to arrive here on Thursday and they are now billeted at the Lapaz 2 Elementary School.

Dr. Pablo Subong, president of West Visayas State University and chairman of the program and publicity committee of SCUAA, said the athletic delegations from all over the country would be accommodated in the different public schools here, which have been readied as billeting areas for the athletic delegations participating in this week-long sports events.

Meanwhile, the parade of delegation officials and athletes and the opening ceremony of SCUAA sports olympics will be on Sunday, Feb. 19 prior to the sports hostilities and cultural activities at the Iloilo Sports Complex and other sports venues in the city.

The parade will take off 1:30 p.m. on Sunday starting from the Iloilo Provincial Capitol at Bonifacio Drive as assembly area passing Forbes Bridge to Gaisano City Mall, straight to Luna Street toward St. Clement Church in Lapaz district, turn left entering 1st gate of West Visayas State University before entering the back gate of Iloilo Sports Complex, venue of sports events.

A total of 110 chartered colleges and universities through out the country are expected to participateT in this year's SCUAA Sports Olympics.

The participating colleges and universities in Western Visayas region include Aklan State University in Banga, Aklan; Caiz State University in Roxas City; Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Talisay, Negros Occidental; Guimaras State College in Buenavista, Guimaras; Iloilo State College of Fisheries, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo; Negros State College of Agriculture in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental;

Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College, Estancia, Iloilo; Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology, Sagay City, Negros Occidental; University of Antique, Sibalom, Antique; West Visayas College of Science and Technology, Lapaz, Iloilo City; and, West Visayas State University, Lapaz, Iloilo City.

Among the sports disciplines to be contested are athletics (men and women); badminton (men and women); baseball l(men and women; basketball (men and women); boxing; Chess (men and women); Karatedo (men and women); lawn tennis (men and women); sepak takraw; softball (women); swimming (men and women); table tennis (men and women); Tae-Kwon-Do (men and women); Karatedo (men and women); arnis (men and women); volleyball (men and women); and beach volleyball (men and women) as well as Dance Sports (Latin) and Dance Sports (Standard).

This year’s SCUAA sports Olympics has its theme “Isports at Kultura: Gabay sa Pagtahak ng Matuwid na Daan.” (PNA)
