Undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is in a better position than WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao since it is Mayweather who controls his own career, according to Argentine boxing champion Sergio Martinez.
"Pacquiao does not control his career, Mayweather does. Being a Top Rank fighter [Pacquiao's promoter] is like being a puppet. I prefer the position of Mayweather because he gives the orders, while Pacquiao does what he is ordered to do," the Argentine boxer said in Boxing Scene.
Bob Arum's Top Rank Boxing handles Pacquiao's fights.
Mayweather effectively snubbed anew the offer to fight Pacquiao after setting a May 5 face-off against Miguel Cotto.
Martinez said Cotto will be an easy fight for the American boxer.
"He [Mayweather] is going to have some fun [with Cotto]," he said.
Pacquiao’s coach, Freddie Roach, meanwhile, criticized Mayweather for evading the super fight with the Filipino champion.
Roach said Pacquiao is better off fighting Timothy Bradley than Mayweather.
Just like Mayweather, Bradley is undefeated, but Roach said Bradley is a better opponent since he's willing to risk his record.
"I'm just glad Manny is fighting an undefeated fighter who is more concerned about winning than he is about protecting his record," said Roach in RingTV.
